These terms describe how the site works today. They will be reviewed by a lawyer, and rewritten where needed, before we collect any email addresses, open accounts or take payments.
Terms of use
These terms apply when you use Matcha QR, a free QR code generator. By using it, you agree to them. They are written to be read, so if anything is unclear, ask us.
What you can do
- Make as many QR codes as you like, for free, without signing up.
- Use them for personal or business purposes, in print or on screen.
- Keep everything you make. Matcha QR claims no rights over your codes, your logo or the information in them, and we don't add a watermark.
What you must not do
Don't use Matcha QR to make a code that contains, links to or helps with any of the following:
- anything illegal where you or the people scanning are;
- phishing: pages that pretend to be a bank, a delivery company, a government office or any other organisation in order to collect passwords, payment details or personal information;
- malware, or any download designed to harm a device or take control of it;
- scams, including fake payment requests, fake prize offers and fake parking or fine notices;
- pretending to be a business or person you don't represent;
- covering or replacing someone else's QR code, for example a sticker over a code on a parking meter, menu or poster;
- content that infringes someone else's copyright, trademark or other rights;
- harassment, threats, or content that sexually exploits children.
If we learn that Matcha QR is being used this way, we may block access to it and report it to the relevant authorities or service providers.
Your responsibilities
- You are responsible for what you put in your codes and where they lead.
- Scan every code with a phone before you print it, especially before a large print run. The checks on the page help, but they can't see your printer, paper or lighting.
- Keep the destination working. If your website, menu or payment page goes offline, a code that points to it stops being useful.
Free codes keep working
The free codes made with Matcha QR are static: the link, Wi-Fi details or contact card is stored inside the pattern itself. Phones read that information directly, so the codes never contact our servers. They keep working even if Matcha QR changes, goes offline or closes. The only thing that can stop a static code from being useful is the destination it points to, which we don't control.
Once printed, a static code can't be changed. To point somewhere else, make and print a new code.
Changeable codes
Matcha QR plans to offer changeable QR codes, which send scans through our servers so you can edit the destination later. Those will come with their own terms, which you will see before you sign up. These terms don't cover them.
No guarantee
We work hard to make every code scan reliably, but the Matcha QR generator is provided "as is", without any guarantee. Phones, camera apps, printers and materials vary, so we can't promise that every code will scan everywhere, or that Matcha QR will always be available or free of errors.
Limits on our responsibility
As far as the law allows, we are not responsible for losses that come from using the generator or the codes it makes, including the cost of reprinting. Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have that the law says can't be limited.
Other companies' names
WhatsApp, Google and other names mentioned on Matcha QR belong to their owners. We are not affiliated with or endorsed by them. QR Code is a registered trademark of DENSO WAVE INCORPORATED.
Changes to these terms
If we change these terms, we will update this page and the date at the top. Codes you have already made are not affected.
